Get On the Bus to Atlanta

July 29, 2005
............................

The NAACP has joined in partnership with the Rainbow/PUSH and the Coalition of Conscience to support the Keep the Vote Alive March and Rally to be held on August 6, 2005, in Atlanta, Georgia. We are gathering to commemorate the 40th Anniversary of the passage of the Voting Rights Act and to call attention to the threats facing minorities and the poor as key provisions of the Act come up for renewal in 2007.

We are calling on Indiana to show up and show out in a big way. We have reserved a luxury coach bus to roll us to Hot-Lanta for the rally, in style. We will be staying overnight at the beautiful Renaissance Hotel - downtown Atlanta. We will leave Indiana on Friday, August 5, 2005 at approximately 5:00 p.m. and return to Indiana on Sunday, August 7, 2005 at approximately 10:00 p.m. The cost is low and the seats are limited. The price, based on double occupancy, is $150.00 per person and this includes transportation and one nights lodging: Contact me for the cost of a single room or transportation only. We need your reservation now and we need your $90.00 bus fare by August 1, 2005.

Speakers for this historic event included: our very own President and CEO Mr. Bruce Gordon, Rev. Jesse Jackson, Judge Greg Mathis, Ambassador Andrew Young, Coach Ken Carter, Bishop Vashti McKenzie, and many others. Roberta Flack, Stevie Wonder and Darius Brooks will provide entertainment. Following the rally, a health fair, games, and "Democracy School" will be held.

This is an opportunity for networking and coalition building as we mount our own fight here, in Indiana, to protect the voting integrity of our own citizenry. The Voting Rights Act was enacted to guard against the very laws that have recently been passed by our General Assembly. We have to stand up for the rights of the poor and the "would be" disenfranchised. The time is now and we make our stand today.
