Dec 06: 2 Weeks in Iraq, Part 1 of 2 - Joe Mueller is a Christian Peacemaker Teams reservist. His job is to fill in where needed. Joe spent two weeks in Iraq to prepare for possible assignment there. Listen to Joe's moving talk about his motivation to join CPT. Joe tours the region in and around Baghdad and meets with clerics, academics, Iraqi peace activists and common Iraqi citizens. The show contains graphic photos of the tragic killing of members of an Iraqi family at a U.S. manned checkpoint in Iraq. Shot at a Catholic Worker House in January, 2006, Joe predicts what we can expect, and his predictions are coming true.

The issues are local self-government versus top-down decision making in the state house, effective environmental protection, quality of life, taxation and public services. The show is packed with need to know information.

Until the ordinance is written, SJCQoL asks for a moratorium on permitting CAFOs in the county. SJCQoL members and other citizens of the county present information to the Council in the Council chambers at the County-City Building, South Bend, IN.

Nov 01: Indiana Secretary of State Debate - GreenTV recorded the historic debate between all the candidates for Indiana Secretary of State, the first such debate as far as we know. Reporters from local media outlets framed questions, their own and those submitted by audience members, for the candidates to answer. The candidates represent the Democrat, Green, Libertarian and Republican parties. If we are unable to complete editing the show in time, a fundraiser for Bill Stant, the Indiana Green Party candidate for Sec. of State, will be broadcast as an alternate.

Nov 08: Leave My Child Alone (featuring Cindy Sheehan) - Military recruiters work on quotas and routinely bend the rules to meet their recruiting goals. A teacher, several parents and students talk about problems caused by military recruiting in their high schools. Cindy Sheehan, whose son died in Iraq and who has kept a vigil at President Bush's ranch in Texas, tells how recruiters lied to her son to get him to enlist.

LAANE negotiates community benefit agreements (CBAs) on behalf of its coalition members who represent neighborhood organizations, labor unions, environmental groups, small businesses and others who are traditionally left out of economic development contracts between developers and cities. LAANE and CBAs are exciting news to the sustainable developement movement. Another "don't miss" show.

Sep. 06: Opting Out
GreenTV interviews local military counter-recruiters. These organizers and students work in high schools to inform administrators, students and parents about provisions in the No Child Left Behind Act which require schools to give the U.S. military lists of their students. The Act also allows students, without parental permission, to opt out of the lists.

Sep. 13: Opt Out Coffee House
Student peace activists speak and perform at an Opt Out coffee house held in South Bend in 2005. The show features high school students talking to the audience about their experiences and milestones in counter-recruiting at their schools. The students entertain each other with acoustic music, rap and contemporary rock.

Aug. 09: Mountaintop Removal Coal Mining - Christine Fiordalis of the Michiana Group of the Hoosier chapter of the Sierra Club hosts a show about mountaintop removal coal mining (MTR) and the movement which opposes this destructive mining technique. Appalachian Voices says, "One of the greatest environmental and human rights catastrophes in American history is underway just southwest of our nation's capital. In the coalfields of Appalachia, individuals, families, and entire communities are being driven off their land by flooding, landslides, and blasting resulting from mountaintop removal coal mining."

July 19: CAFO Community Information Meeting - Grassroots community organizers held a community meeting at LaVille High School to inform the public about the proposed concentrated animal feeding operation (CAFO) in Union Township, St. Joseph County. The issues are local self-government versus top-down decision making in the state house, effective environmental protection, quality of life, taxation and public services.
St. Joseph County Commissioner Steve Ross hosted the event which contained a presentation by the developers of the CAFO, followed by presentations from local citizens who raise important issues and questions regarding the CAFO and an explanation of the permitting process by a public relations representative from the Indiana Department of Environmental Management (IDEM). GreenTV taped the citizen presentations, the IDEM talk and public comments.

July 26: A Day of Equality: Earth Day 2006 - Gay, lesbian, bi-sexual, trans-sexual (GLBT) organizations meet in Mishawaka, IN, to organize against the same-sex marriage amendment to the Constitution of the State of Indiana. The show features interviews with representatives from Another Bookstore and GLBT Resource Center, Indiana Equality and PFLAG. The speakers talk about themselves and the campaigns to defeat the same-sex marriage amendment and to extend human rights to GLBT citizens in Indiana. June 7: Bike to Work Week - Bike to Work Week was May 14 - 20. Paint the Town Coalition, Michiana Bicycle Association and Downtown South Bend sponsored a half-day kick off event on Monday, May 15. Tune in for informative interviews with local bicycle commuters and check out the cool bikes. Find out why striping bike lanes is so important to safety. And remember to Share the Road with bikes.

June 14: Walking Indiana for Ballot Access - GreenTV interviews Jim Coplen about walking the length of Indiana for ballot access, walking the Appalachian Trail from Maine to Georgia and writing. May 3: Paint the Town Bicycle Ride - The Bicycle Lanes Committee organized a mass bicycle ride to raise awareness of bicycling as a legitimate, healthy and environmentally friendly form of transportation in South Bend. 100-150 bicyclists of all ages and skills met and rode circuits on streets the committee wants the city to stripe with bicycle lanes. The mayor of South Bend and two Common Council members participated. GreenTV filmed the event. The ride was held in summer 2005.

May 17: Good Jobs, Fairer Taxes - If you ever wondered how the United States can have such a powerful economy, but our schools, roads and other public infrastructure are deteriorating before our eyes, then you'll want to see this show. Why are so many large multi-state corporations doing well while wages and salaries stagnate and good jobs disappear? Greg LeRoy tells us how unaccountable taxpayer subsidies to businesses are emptying the public treasuries and destroying good jobs. Greg spoke at the recent Community Forum on Economic Development at IU South Bend. His speech is a condensed presentation of his book, The Great American Jobs Scam.

He was trained as an interrogator and assigned to the notorius Abu Ghraib prison. While interrogating detainees at the prison, he became a conscientious objector to war. Joshua talks about his progression from warrior to peace maker at an Opt Out Coffee House in South Bend, IN. Be sure to watch our series on the Opt Out counter-recruiting movement. Mar. 1: Fundraiser for Bill Stant and Ballot Access - Bill Stant is running for Indiana Secretary of State as the endorsed Indiana Green Party candidate. To appear on the ballot, he must submit 30,000 certified signatures before June 30. If Bill obtains at least 2% of the vote in the general election this fall, citizens throughout Indiana can run as Greens.
Greens and supporters gather for a party, to have fun and raise money for the ballot access drive. There is music, a raffle, an auction and a entertaining and informative speech by the candidate. Steve Francis, Democrat challenger for 2nd District Congress in the upcoming primary election, also attends the party.

Feb. 8: Bill Stant at IUSB - Bill Stant is a candidate for Indiana Secretary of State. He is running as a Green with the official support of the Indiana Green Party. The IUSB Political Science Club and the American Democracy Project invited Bill to speak at Indiana University South Bend. In his speech, Bill Stant answers the following questions:
- What draws him to run for for public office?
- Why is he seeking the Indiana Green Party nomination as its candidate for Secretary of State?
- What will be a successful third-party campaign for Secretary of State?
- Why does Indiana need election reform?

Feb. 15: IRAQ: 2 Years as a Christian Peacemaker - Sheila Provencher talks informally and briefly about U.S. policies in Iraq and how they affect every day Iraqi citizens. She is particularly interested in the effects of torture and violence. Sheila served as on a Christian Peacemaker Team in Iraq in the Bhagdad area. Quickly, Sheila throws the floor open to questions from the audience. This is Sheila close up and personal. Her talk was part of Camp Casey in South Bend.
