WASHINGTON -- Rep. Jan Schakowsky of Illinois has joined as a co-sponsor of a measure that calls for the impeachment of Vice President Dick Cheney.

Schakowsky is one of two House Democrats who signed on to the resolution Tuesday. The other is Missouri Rep. William Lacy Clay.

The measure was introduced last month by Ohio Rep. Dennis Kucinich, who is seeking the Democratic presidential nomination.

In a statement, Clay said, "I believe that Mr. Cheney deliberately manipulated the intelligence process to deceive the Congress of the United States and the American people. The arrogant abuse of power and the complete disregard for the truth needs to stop."

Kucinich's resolution claims Cheney manipulated intelligence "to deceive the citizens and Congress of the United States by fabricating a threat of Iraqi weapons of mass destruction to justify the use of the United States Armed Forces against the nation of Iraq."

A Schakowsky spokesman said late Wednesday that she did not immediately have a statement on her decision.
