Minutes of St. Joe Valley Greens

October 14, 2002, Kathleen Kaiser, Recorder

PRESENT: Tom Brown, Don Brubaker, Lance Howard, Kathleen Kaiser, Jeffery Sutter, Vicki Webb, David C. Kaiser, Jason Durr, Patrick Henthorne, and three guests, two of whom are members of Michiana Watershed.

1. OPENING AND CALL TO ORDER - The meeting was called to order at 7:10 pm by Don Brubaker. Introduced city engineers invited for the evening’s presentation. Don asked for a volunteer to record the minutes as the Secretary was unable to attend tonight. Kathleen Kaiser volunteered to take minutes.

2. READING AND APPROVAL OF MINUTES - Waived reading as minutes were posted on the website.

3. TREASURER’S REPORT - Don reported there were no changes in the Treasurer’s report from the last meeting.

4. REPORTS OF DELEGATES AND OFFICERS:

a. Tom Brown reported the neither he nor Dave would be able to attend the Indiana Green Party meeting next weekend. He asked for a volunteer as a representative. Nobody was able to attend. [Correction: The IGP meeting is October 26, in Indianapolis.]

b. Don Brubaker proposed moving the SJV Greens meeting to the 2nd Friday of the month to accommodate the Secretary’s schedule. A motion was made to delay the debate until after the presentation by the SB Water engineers. A second was given. The members voted to postpone discussion.

5. OLD BUSINESS - Jeffrey reported that the Pesto Party Fundraiser, though lightly attended, yielded stimulating conversation and a new member, David Kaiser. David paid $25.00 membership dues. Vicki submitted a $20.00 donation from the Fundraiser to the acting Treasurer, Don.

6. NEW BUSINESS:

a. Jason Durr, Division of Engineering and Patrick Henthorne, Division of Environmental Services from the City of South Bend presented the city’s CSO Control Program. The main thrust of the presentation consisted of the defining, identifying, and revealing of future corrective plans relating to the CSO issue in the Saint Joseph River watershed in general and the city of South Bend in particular.

b. A vote was taken related to changing the meeting day. The chapter will continue to meet on the second Monday of the month.

c. The group decided to hold the 2002 Saint Joseph Valley Greens yearly Congress. It will be held on November 9, 2002 at the Kaiser’s house. The following schedule was approved:

d. Members voted to endorse Jill Long Thompson in the upcoming elections for the 2nd district Congressional seat. Vicki, David and Kathleen will collaborate on releasing the endorsement to local media outlets. Lance noted that the Long Thompson campaign is in need of volunteers.
