Minutes of St. Joe Valley Greens Annual Congress

Present: Don Brubaker, Tom Brown, Vicki Webb, Kathleen Kaiser, David Vollrath, David Kaiser and Jeffrey Sutter

Following a potluck lunch, members discussed goals and objectives for the chapter for the upcoming year.

Goals for 2003

1. Explore county and municipal precinct committee systems with long term goal of placing 3 Greens in precinct committee positions in 2003.

Objective: Find out, by December 2002, what openings, if any, there are for committee positions and who currently holds filled positions.

2. Explore and become active in neighborhood organizations in St. Joseph County.

Objective: Demonstrate active Green participation in at least 3 neighborhood organizations in 2003 via attendance and/or presentations.

3. Focus on water quality issues in St. Joseph County and follow-up on CSO’s.

Objective: Ensure that $1,000,000 is budgeted in the Water Treatment budget to address CSO’s.

Objective: Attend Common Council meetings and, within 6 months (May 2003) have a presentation prepared which describes:

  • the CSO problem
  • where Council members stand on the issue
  • the timeline for rate increases
  • the SJVGreens' position on rates

Objective: Present findings (above) to the media, including radio, newspapers and TV to inform the public.

4. Track development decisions in St. Joseph county.

Objective: Obtain copies of area plan for county by December meeting.

5. Increase membership by 100% by the next Congress.

Objective: Print business cards with contact information for members to share with acquaintances and distribute at December meeting.

Miscellaneous

Tom will speak to John Matwyshyn about contact information regarding precinct committee positions and forward the information to Kathleen.

A suggestion was made to have a sign-in sheet available at all meetings.

David V. will speak to Robert Santi of Area Plan Commission re: area plan for St. Joseph county.

A proposal was made and passed by acclamation to make monthly meetings working meetings rather than long business meetings.

A suggestion was made to obtain a calendar of meetings of the Common Council.
