SJVGreens Minutes
Minutes of St. Joe Valley Greens
November 11, 2004; Tom Brown, recorder
Call to Order: Kathleen Petitjean called the meeting to order at 7:10 p.m., in the Molloy Room of the St. Jo. Co. Public Library downtown branch, South Bend, IN.
Members Present: Lance Howard, Kathleen Petitjean, Dave Vollrath, Tom Brown, Judith Rubeleske
Guest speaker: Dawn Chapla, United Way of St. Joseph County and St. Joseph County Building Self-Sufficiency Task Force.
Dawn spoke about the United Way changing to an impact model and the Self-Sufficiency Task Force.
Self-sufficiency is defined as maintaining a decent standard of living and not having to choose between basic necessities - whether to meet one's need for child care but not nutrition, or housing, but not health care. Self-sufficiency wages are family sustaining.
Dawn asked the SJVGreens to help the Task Force reform energy regulation in Indiana to support family self-sufficiency.

There was no old business.
New Business
The members discussed what we can do to support the Self-Sufficiency Task Force and the energy regulatory reform project. The following tasks were proposed and passed by consensus.
- Kathleen proposed that each of us turn in 5-6 signed petitions and submit the petitions to the IURC prior to the December 10, deadline for public comments. Judith added an amendment that we should mail the petitions by December 5, to ensure we make the deadline.
- Tom proposed to mail a petition on SJVGreens letterhead supporting the regulatory reforms. Kathleen said that our old letterhead was destroyed, and Tom remembered that the address was wrong anyway. He will make a new letter head for the occasion.
- Tom proposed that we link our web site to the Task Force report. Dave proposed that we also link to the South Bend Tribune's article on the issue.
- Tom proposed to email an announcement re the Task Force report and the regulatory hearing to our broadcast list. The announcment wil include a link to the Task Force report.
- Tom proposed to do one or more GreenTV shows on the energy regulatory issues and family self-sufficiency.
