GreenTV Report

Karl is beginning to shoot and edit video.

Neal Austin taped the public meeting put on by IDEM at LaVille High School on October 11th. An activist from eastern LaGrange county contacted Tom re obtaining an unedited copy of the video footage Neal taped. A citizen group is forming to resist a CAFO proposed in LaGrange Co. Tom is sending the activist a copy of the raw footage from Oct. 11, plus two GreenTV shows on the Walnut Grove CAFO and petition for a county CAFO ordinance. Tom is charging $20 plus any donation.

Kathleen and Neal plan on meeting sometime after November 7 to edit the Prius tapes into a show.

Dean Meyerson from GPUS is proposing a clearinghouse/library of video and audio for distribution across the country. Tom told Dean that St Joe Valley Greens have 1 year’s worth of video. Meyerson reported that administrative and copying funds will be available for participants.

Karl made a contact with FreeSpeech TV which may be interested in GreenTV shows for one of their programs. There may also be an opportunity for GreenTV to netcast video from FreeSpeech TV’s server.

Karl is researching the history of social justice movements in the Michiana area for a future GreenTV video. He will invite activists to write a two page essay on why them chose a cause and did something to improve the community. Karl will videotape the participants reading their essay and combine the readings with footage gathered from other sources such as the Northern Indiana Historical Society, St. Jo. Co. Public Library and private sources.

Old Business

1. Secretary of State Race

Tom, Lance and Karl assembled yard signs for Bill Stant’s write-in effort for Secretary of State, while Kathleen conducted the meeting. Approximately thirty five signs were completed.

Kathleen reported there are 226 polling places in St Joe County. County Clerk’s office reported the list of polling places will not be available until early next week. Kathleen requested members volunteer to post signs at polling places on the night before or day of Election (November 7th). Tom noted that same volunteers should return to pick up yard signs after polling places closed so posts could be re-used.

IGPCC meeting to take place at Another Book Store, 100 Center Mishawaka on Saturday, October 14 from 1 to 3 p.m. Doug Baker, from the Michigan Green Party will be coming to South Bend early Saturday morning to meet Kathleen at the Farmer’s Market in South Bend to distribute write-in instructional campaign flyers. Bill Stant is also planning on being at the Market. Doug is bringing sign-making materials on Saturday. Dave Vollrath reported he would drop off additional stakes at Kathleen friend’s house in Mishawaka.

Following the IGPCC meeting, Greens are invited to a potluck at 421 Lincolnway West Mishawaka (at the corner of West St and Lincolnway). Karl, Lance and Kathleen agreed to bring food/drinks. Anyone else wishing to socialize arewelcome to attend. Please bring a dish to share.

Miscellaneous

Karl announced that Lily Hoang, a local Green supporter, was honored with a First Book Press award through Chiasmus Press. Congratulations, Lily. Hopefully this will lead to a university teaching position in the area and will mean that Karl and Lily will be with us for a few more years.

Members were encouraged to take signs and flyers with them to post and distribute. A supporter who came too late to help make signs, offered to take a sign and asked to be included in the posting for polling place volunteers. She gave her email address to Tom.

Kathleen paid $5 space rental fee.
