SJVGreens Minutes
Minutes of St. Joe Valley Greens Meeting
June 14, 2007; Tom Brown, recorder
I. Call to Order
The SJVGreens met on Thursday, June 14, 2007, at the GLBT Resource Center in Mishawaka. Karl Hardy called the meeting to order at 7:15 PM.
Members Present: Karl Hardy, Lance Howard, Kathleen Petitjean, Tom Brown.
Guests Present: Al Koch
II. Ballot Access Petitions for Kathleen
We believe Kathleen needs 200 certified signatures to gain ballot access although we are not sure.
Last month, Karl thought the total was 40. However, he recalculated the number of votes for Secretary of State from precinct totals in the 1st District in the last election. 2% of that total is 200 signatures. Kathleen tried to get an authorized total from both the County Clerk's office and the Voter Registration office. Neither would offer a figure, and both referred Kathleen to the other office.
Karl and Tom encouraged Kathleen to either send a letter or email to the County Clerk, Rita Glen, asking her what the correct number of certified signatures should be. This will document that we have tried to obtain the official requirement in advance of turning in petitions. If the Clerk doesn't respond with a number, we can prove further roadblocks to ballot access exist in St. Joseph County.
Karl will double check the precinct totals and print out maps of the 1st District for the petition crew.
The petition crew will meet at Tom's house at noon on Sat., 6/16/07. The crew will petition until hunger overcomes them. The crew will petition again the following Monday, 6/18 from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM. If there is time, the candidates will meet after the petition session to fill out candidate declaration forms.
Candidates must file by July 2 or 3. Kathleen, Karl, David and Tom hope to file together on Monday, July 2.
